The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) enables parents or grandparents of Canadians to immigrate to Canada and take advantage of PR and even citizenship.
What is Super Visa?
The Super Visa is a temporary visa that was designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who want to visit them for up to 5 consecutive years without the need of renewing their status.
Eligibility Criteria:
In order to apply for this program, you must meet the following requirements
-At least 18 years old
-A Canadian citizen/ PR
-Living in Canada at the time of application and when parents/grandparents are expected to arrive
-Is financially stable
What are the Financial Requirements?
For the application for a Super Visa, applicants need to prove that their household meets the required Low-Income Cut-Off (Families who earn less money spend more of their money on basic necessities like housing and clothes- LICO) criteria.
For the PGP, Candidates applying for this program should meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirements.
Application Process:
For Super Visa, the application process is quite similar to a typical Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). Along with this, some additional documents are required to prove that parents/ grandparents can be looked after, upon arriving in Canada.
Further, in order to qualify for the PGP, Candidates must first follow these steps to provide proof of their eligibility before submitting this information to be included in the Candidate Pool. If these candidates are selected, they receive an invitation to apply, which requires the next steps to proceed further.
The sponsored individual can’t be medically or criminally ineligible if they want to apply for the PGP or Super Visa. The PGP requires a police certificate whereas; an Immigration Medical Exam (IME) is required for both programs.
