Canada has recently released its Immigration Levels Plan 2023- 2025. They aim to welcome 463,000 new immigrants in 2023. Gradually the target will rise to 485,000 new immigrants in 2024, with a further increase to 500,000 new immigrants in the year 2025.
What is Immigration Level Plan?
The levels plan is a projection of how many people are predicted to migrate to Canada in a given year and plans annual targets for each type of migration. Each year the federal department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) releases a new Immigration Levels Plan which it utilizes to carry out its operations.
It acts as a guide for a number of immigrants that Canada aims to welcome each year. The Canadian Immigration System seeks to grow the economy by attracting highly skilled immigrants, reuniting families through different programs, and providing shelter for refugees seeking protection.
Express Entry and PNP targets:
Immigrants mostly come to Canada through the Express Entry Program and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP); hence IRCC predicts that this number can steadily increase.
In its Media Release, the Government says that it’s increasing regional immigration programs like PNP, due to how much they contribute to the economic expansion of the country. They are aware that one way to deal with Canada’s demographic challenges is by welcoming a high number of immigrants, to help sustain and grow the workforce.
Minister Sean Fraser said that in 2023 Express Entry will start to conduct targeted draws aimed at attracting newcomers to those areas where they are needed the most.
