IRCC recently declared its approval of the Pearson Test of English (PTE) as a part of Canadian immigration applications.
Beginning in late 2023, individuals who are seeking permanent residency in Canada will be required to pass Pearson’s test in order to be eligible. According to the organization, PTE Essential is equivalent to PTE Academic but focuses on a more practical, real-world application to meet Canada’s immigration demands.

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) will join CELPIP and IELTS as one of three official language assessments for skilled candidates seeking to prove their English language ability to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Hence, Canada now has a total of five language tests approved-
– Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
– International English Language Testing (IELTS)
– Pearson’s Test of English (PTE)- (2023)
Two French Language Tests:
– Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF)
– Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF)
In order to ensure that applicants in the economic class are equipped with the necessary language skills to prosper in Canada, IRCC requires them to undergo language proficiency testing.
For candidates to qualify for a particular pathway, they must attain the minimum possible Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score determined by IRCC.
The UK, Australian, and New Zealand governments as well as the universities in these countries accept PTE Academic as part of their visa application. Additionally, more than 90% of Canadian universities also accept PTE Academic. Taking advantage of the most recent advancements in AI and voice recognition, Pearson has launched a digital version of the two exams available in their global testing centers.
