What is PNP?
In simple words, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an excellent way for qualified skilled workers to immigrate to Canada and get Permanent Resident Status. The intent of this program is to encourage skilled workers who can contribute positively to the economy while spreading the benefits of immigration across Canada.
Through this program, provinces in Canada can nominate immigrants from other countries who are interested in residing in a particular province. Therefore, every program is developed in order to meet the province’s labor force needs.
Almost all territories and provinces (except Nunavut and Quebec), operate their own PNP’s. Although, Quebec has its own authority to decide which selection criteria will be used for economic immigration.
There are two pathways to permanent residency under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): base programs and enhanced programs:-
-Base programs:
This is when an applicant applies directly to a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream. The province will then verify that the eligibility criteria are met for the selected program. If all the requirements are fulfilled, the province will then issue a letter of nomination to the applicant and they may then apply for Permanent Residence (PR).
Also, individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada through the express entry pool, but are not eligible for the same, can apply through the base PNP stream, as long as they are eligible for a particular PNP.
-Enhanced Programs:
Provincial nominations issued under the Express Entry-aligned streams are known as enhanced nominations. This means that some PNPs require applicants to have an Express Entry profile in order to meet the PNP eligibility requirements.
Most Canadian provinces and territories are able to nominate a certain number of candidates through the express entry system to meet local and provincial labor market needs.
If an Express Entry applicant meets the PNP’s eligibility requirements, the province will send them an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination. Anyone who receives a nomination through an enhanced PNP will automatically get 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points added to their base score, guaranteeing them an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the next round of Express Entry invitations.
