On March 27, 2023 Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Sean Fraser announced a new economic immigration pathway during a speech in Toronto. This pathway will be available under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) which will help firms in hiring qualified refugees and other displaced people.
In simple terms, the EMPP connects refugees and other displaced people with Canadian employers who need workers. This helps vulnerable people start a new life in Canada and gives employers access to new employees with the skills they need. This in turn helps Canada’s economy grow.
This new pathway will provide more opportunities to fill in a variety of in-demand positions, which include teachers, tourists, nurse aides, software engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, truck and delivery service drivers, etc. Further, Canada is likely to expand the EMPP and welcome around 2,000 skilled people to fill the labor shortages, in the country.
Employers will be allowed to hire refugees and other displaced people who meet the job requirements in the new National Occupation Classification 2021 categories TEER 0-5 according to the new government gateway.
The EMPP gives people from other countries the opportunity to come to Canada, find jobs, and start new lives with their families. It also helps companies find the workers they need.
