After being closed for almost 2 years, the New Zealand government has announced the re-opening of the Skilled Migrant category, starting this November.
Immigration Minister Hon. Michael Wood announced on 12th October that the Skilled Migrant Category Residence Visa will be re-starting from 9th November 2022.
What is known as the Skilled Migrant Category?
Simply, the skilled migrant category resident visa is for the people who have the skills and can contribute to New Zealand’s economic growth.
The selection of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the Skilled Migrant Category will be as follows; the first selection will be on 9th November 2022. Further, according to the update, the second selection will be held on 18th January 2023. Thereafter, after 18th Jan 2023, a monthly selection of EOIs will happen on the third Wednesday of each month.
What if you have an EOI in the pool?
If you have an EOI in the pool and no longer wish to proceed, you are able to withdraw your EOI at any time before the 9th November selection.
You can request a refund, if you withdraw before the selections- 9th Nov. Along with this, people with existing EOI, are advised to update the same. If you receive an invitation to apply for a Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, you will need to submit an application, within four months of your invitation.
Moreover, the changes will also allow high-skilled immigrants to receive residency in the country quicker than before. These include university lecturers, scientists (Ph.D.), etc.
