Canada held its second Express Entry Draw on 18th Jan 2023, in two consecutive weeks. A record-breaking 11,000 Express Entry candidates were invited by IRCC this year, marking the fastest start to the program to date.
IRCC invited 5,500 candidates to apply for a permanent residency visa, with a minimum CRS score of just 490. The CRS cut-off score has dropped by 17 points, compared to the Express Entry Draw conducted on 11th Jan 2023. Successive draws in the early weeks of 2023 demonstrate IRCC’s clear intention to bring more highly-skilled immigrants to Canada this year.
Different changes to be expected for targeted draws:
The categories for targeted draws will be based on the candidate’s such as education, occupation, and work experience as well as language abilities. According to the immigration minister, this new policy seeks to provide support for Canada’s economic goals by selecting applicants with the ability to fill the necessary employment shortages that are currently needed in the country. The draws may target applicants who have specific work experience that is significant to an in-demand sector of the workforce.
