Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser stated that the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program may continue even after its end date of August 2024 in some form or become a permanent program. The RNIP program is designed to attract immigrants to rural and northern communities in Canada.
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) started in 2019 and will go on for the next five years. It picks qualified foreign skilled workers based on their work experience, education, and language skills. RNIP is successful in recruiting skilled immigrants to work in smaller communities facing labour shortages and aging populations.
Immigration Minister Sean Fraser recently said, “The only critical feedback I’ve received is that the communities that benefit from the program would like to bring more people in through the program.”
However, in spite of the pandemic, RNIP invited 390 new permanent residents in the year 2021, and more than 1,360 new permanent residents were invited alone in the year 2022.
