Canada’s latest immigration draws have once again highlighted the importance of Canadian work experience, eligible occupations and provincial labour-market priorities.
On September 29, 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) with a minimum CRS score of 518.
Just a few days earlier, Alberta invited 113 candidates through the Alberta Opportunity Stream on September 23, with a minimum Worker Expression of Interest score of 58.
These two draws follow different selection approaches. The CEC is based on qualifying Canadian skilled work experience, while Alberta’s program also responds to provincial labour-market priorities. Understanding this difference can help candidates identify which Canada PR occupations and pathways may fit their profiles.
The latest CEC draw issued 2,000 ITAs, and the lowest-ranked candidate invited had a CRS score of 518.
The Canadian Experience Class is designed for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. To qualify, candidates generally need eligible Canadian work experience in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 occupations, along with the required language proficiency and other eligibility criteria.
Unlike a category-based draw, the September 29 CEC draw was not restricted to a specific occupation group. Therefore, eligible professionals from a wide range of fields may be part of the CEC pool if they satisfy the program requirements.

Alberta also issued a new round of invitations through the Alberta Opportunity Stream on September 23, 2026.

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has stated that its 2026 worker-stream priorities include sectors such as healthcare, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation and agriculture, along with other provincial priorities.
This means candidates should not look only at their CRS score. Their occupation, Alberta employment, work experience, language ability and eligibility for a particular AAIP stream or pathway can also be important.
Recent Alberta draws show activity across several occupational and sector-focused pathways.
Alberta conducted a Priority Sectors – Health Care draw on September 18, inviting 100 candidates with a minimum score of 62.
Healthcare-related Canada PR occupations can include eligible professionals such as nurses, pharmacists, medical technologists, healthcare managers, paramedical professionals and other occupations depending on the specific pathway and current eligible occupation list.
On September 15, Alberta invited 18 candidates through its Priority Sectors – Agriculture pathway, with a minimum score of 60.
Candidates working in eligible agriculture-related occupations may therefore want to monitor Alberta’s selection criteria and occupation requirements carefully.
Alberta’s Law Enforcement Pathway issued fewer than 10 invitations on September 21, with a minimum score of 49.
Eligible occupations can include qualifying police officers, investigators and specialized law-enforcement occupations, subject to the pathway’s requirements and eligible employers.
Technology continues to feature in Alberta’s immigration priorities. The province issued 100 invitations through the Accelerated Tech Pathway on September 22, 2026, with a minimum score of 59.
This can make eligible technology-related Canada PR occupations particularly relevant for candidates with Alberta employment and the required qualifications.
Alberta’s 2026 priorities also include construction, manufacturing and aviation. These sectors have appeared in Alberta’s recent priority-sector selection activity.
