Honorable. Mr. Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry- announced that the category-based selection for the first STEM round will open on 5th July 2023.
The aim of the draw is to send out invitations to candidates with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) profiles, including data scientists, software development and programmers, math and statistics majors, actuaries and electrical and electronics engineers, and many more.
Further, Canada looks to meet the increasing requests for STEM expertise and fill particular roles that contribute to the country’s economic development and technological progress.
Category-Based Selection System:
Last month, Immigration Minister Fraser announced some huge changes to Express Entry, involving a new category-based selection system.
The goal of this drive for Canada is to bring excellent talent and strengthen Canada’s position in research and development and in innovation. By employing more experienced workers in these fields, this category-based selection shows its dedication to welcoming in-demand professionals to its residents.
This selection will continue to be used in addition to the general invitation round and will share more information in the next coming months.
They will primarily focus on the Express Entry candidates who have the following:
– A strong French Language Proficiency
-A work experience in the following fields:
a) Healthcare
b) STEM professions i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
c) Trades such as:- Carpenters, Plumbers, and Contractors
d) Transport
e) Agriculture and agri-food
Throughout the year, there will be selection rounds based on different categories. These rounds will run alongside the general invitation rounds. More information about these category-based selection rounds will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
