Canada Extends Over 17,000 Invitations for Permanent Residency in September 2023: A Comprehensive Overview
Canada continues to be a beacon of hope for individuals aspiring to start anew in a land of
opportunities. In September 2023, the Canadian government extended a total of 17,145
invitations to apply for permanent residency (PR) through the Express Entry and Provincial
Nominee Program (PNP) draws. This blog provides a detailed overview of these draws and their
significance for those considering Canada as their future home.
Express Entry: The Gateway to Canada
Express Entry is not an immigration program by itself but serves as a mechanism through which
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) selects candidates for various economic
immigration programs. These programs include the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled
Trades, Canadian Experience Class, and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
Express Entry draws can be broadly categorized into two types: General and Program-Specific.
General draws select candidates eligible for any federal economic immigration program based
on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, while Program-Specific draws target
candidates for specific federal economic immigration programs.
In September, IRCC conducted a total of five Express Entry draws, extending invitations to 8,300
applicants to submit their PR applications. Notably, two consecutive "no program specified"
draws within two weeks saw 6,200 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued, emphasizing Canada’s
commitment to welcoming skilled immigrants.
What sets September 2023 apart is the historic introduction of category-based Express Entry
draws, specifically targeting jobs in the transportation and agriculture/food industries. So far
this year, Express Entry has issued a remarkable 86,048 ITAs for permanent residency.
