PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS SPONSORSHIP TO OPEN IN OCTOBER
The latest announcement by IRCC changes makes it easier for Permanent Residents of Canada to reunite with their family and to spend more time with their parents and grandparents.
New Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship 2023. In October 2023, the IRCC announced to send invitations to apply to 24,200 prospective sponsors.
These invites will be sent during a two-week period beginning October 10, 2023.
They will begin accepting up to 15,000 full applications for the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship 2023.
The application process for the Parents and Grandparents Program is normally available once a year. It allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada.
What is Parents and Grandparents sponsorship?
Citizens and permanent residents of Canada may sponsor their parents and grandparents for immigration to Canada. Parents and grandparents who are authorized under this program are granted permanent residency in Canada and may ultimately be eligible to seek Canadian citizenship.
Eligibility
To be eligible to sponsor your parents and grandparents for Canadian Permanent Residency the applicants should be
- At least 18 years or older.
- A Permanent resident of Canada or citizen, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
- The applicants must have enough money to support the family they want to sponsor with valid proof of income for the last 3 years meeting the IRCC financial requirements.
What is the processing time for PGP (Parents or Grandparents) sponsorship in Canada?
According to the most recent official IRCC processing report, Parents or Grandparents (PGP) sponsorship applications are presently taking an average of 23 months to process across Canada, with the exception of Quebec.
However, the average IRCC processing period for parents or grandparents (PGP) intending to live in Quebec is presently 45 months.

What is a Super Visa?

The Super Visa Program permits parents and grandparents to visit Canada as long-term guests with a multi-entry visa valid for up to ten years. A Super Visa, unlike regular visiting visas, permits visa holders to stay in Canada for up to two years upon initial entrance.
Parents and grandparents must fulfill ordinary visiting visa requirements to be eligible for the Super Visa program. Furthermore, they must:
Provide a documented financial promise from their kid or grandchild in Canada; demonstrating that the sponsor in Canada satisfies the minimal income requirements
Show that the sponsor in Canada satisfies the minimum income standards; demonstrate that they have obtained Canadian health insurance for at least a year; and pass an immigration medical test.
Parents/grandparents may require a Temporary Resident Visa in addition to the Super Visa, depending on their nationality.
To Whom you can sponsor ?
As per the preference, there can be more than one person who could be sponsored.
You can sponsor your parents and grandparents if you are invited to apply.
To do so, there must submit separate applications for each individual (or couple) you sponsor. Each application will be handled independently.
You must fulfil the income criteria for everyone you apply to sponsor, including their dependents.
Application invitations are not transferrable. You cannot, for example, use the invitation to sponsor your spouse’s parents and grandparents or to gift to a friend or family member. whether your spouse want to sponsor their parents and grandparents, they must notify us individually and wait to see whether they are asked to apply.

On September 8, IRCC formally declared and confirmed that commencing October 10, 2023, they will send 24,200 invitations to apply for permanent residency under the Canada Parents and Grandparents Programe, with the objective of approving 15,000 applications.
This program adds an advantage to the permanent residents and eases away path as it allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada.
